Top 10 Documentaries (and TV Series) About Programming, Computers, and the Br...

In the previous article, we compiled a list of 10 top IT films (from classics to the present day), thanks to which you can take a look at the prospects of the distant (or not so distant) future. In this article, we would like to show our present - and documentary films will do an excellent job of this.

Since when did the fantasies of people of the past become our reality, where is all the information of billions of people on the planet stored, how did the best ambitious minds of humanity begin their journey and what is Tony Stark doing in our universe, and not Marvel? The answers are on this page!

How a Computer Geek Changed the World (2009)

This film tells the story of a man who:

At the age of 13 he wrote his first computer program,
refused to listen to music and watch social media marketing service television so that nothing would distract from programming,
tries to read one book a week,
and one of his favorite movies is "Spy Game."
The film is about Bill Gates, one of the richest people on the planet and the founder of Microsoft. Gates' school friends, Paul Allen (his first business partner) and other colleagues will share their stories in the film.

Biography: Google (2005) (editor's note ) — It was easier to find this film in Yandex, since Google gives different biographies :) )

In the film, you will learn the story of Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the creators of the world-famous search engine. It was invented back in the students' years as a project for a dissertation, when they studied at Stanford University. Actually, a great story for those who like to put off working on their coursework for "later" - how a good university project can help not only get a diploma, but also become a multi-billionaire.

An interesting fact about the name Google: initially the system was called BackRub, but this was not the best decision. The fate was decided by one of the founders of Sun Microsystems Andy Bechtolsheim. The guys presented him with the capabilities of their system and used the term "googol". Being a busy person, Andy Bechtolsheim hastily wrote out a check for $100,000 in the name of a company that did not yet exist. And in order to get the money declared in the bank, it was necessary to create a company under this name - Google Incorporated.

Another fascinating film related to Google. But not about the founding of the company, but about the implementation of one ambitious idea. At the beginning of the 20th century, a British science fiction writer raised in his works the concept of the "World Brain" - an encyclopedia that would become an information resource for citizens from all over the world. An accessible, authoritative, free, constantly updated resource. Sounds like something real these days, right?

The film will tell you how this idea was realized in our century and who stood in the way of scanning millions of books for Google Books.
