This is my first time working at a company. I am currently in charge of design and product management for a service called Channel Talk, and it has been 4 years since I joined the company. The design team consists of two people, including me. It must have been quite a while since I worked in a team as a solo designer. Yes. I worked alone for the first two years, and for the next two years I worked with a team member. When you first came in, what was the first thing you did as a designer? First, I did what the team needed most. Of course, if you join a startup as a designer, there will be a lot of things that are annoying to your eyes. I want to change the logo, and I think I need to work on the overall design. I get greedy. However, in order to persuade such a big change, I think it is important to first prove your capabilities by carrying out what the team needs. At the same time, you are completing each task you think of on your own. In my case, at the time, Joy Corporation was improving a B2B service called Work Insight, and the first task was to supplement the graph design.

While doing that, I changed the logo, changed the homepage, and took the initiative to change what I thought Cambodia Phone Number Data I needed to change. Because you can't change everything at once. It might be difficult for designers with so-called artistic temperament to work at a startup. I guess so. Because there are challenges that need to be solved every day. The first designer a startup needs is closer to a product designer than an artist. Also, I like someone with excellent communication skills who can appropriately select what the team wants and determine priorities. That's why I think I need to first think about whether I'm a good fit for a startup, not just as a designer, but as a person. So what do you think are the benefits of starting your career as a designer at a startup? The advantages of working at a startup as well as being a designer are clear. What's attractive about startups is that you can reflect a lot of your capabilities into the service. It's also fun to grow with the company. They usually say that designers are not treated well in Korea.

This is true for large corporations, but there is also a prejudice that it may be even worse for startups. that's right. So, you must find a team that can grow and a trustworthy leader to join. Even if the CEO doesn't know much about design practice, it would be good if the CEO is someone who values design and spares no effort in investing in it. I think it would be difficult to figure that out in just a few interviews. So, I advise my juniors who have just graduated from college to ‘wear only half of it.’ First, try to work together by working outside as a freelancer or working part-time for a while. . You must make sure that compensation is paid at an appropriate level. What about from a startup perspective? Usually, the initial team consists of planners, developers, and marketers. Do you think that even early-stage teams with limited resources need designers? In my opinion, I like the combination of a team of businessmen, developers, and designers. Marketing is obviously important, but it may vary depending on the nature of the product. If you are a team that wants to compete based on product power, I think it is better to invest in design first rather than marketing. Also, without a designer, marketing is practically difficult.
